President Trump on Wednesday announced he has directed the Food and Drug Administration to ban the sale of most flavored e-cigarettes, The New York Times reports.

“The Trump Administration is making it clear that we intend to clear the market of flavored e-cigarettes to reverse the deeply concerning epidemic of youth e-cigarette use that is impacting children, families, schools and communities,” Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement. “We will not stand idly by as these products become an on-ramp to combustible cigarettes or nicotine addiction for a generation of youth.”

Hundreds of people have become ill with lung ailments after vaping, and health officials are investigating six deaths possibly linked to e-cigarettes.

Matthew L. Myers, president of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, said in a statement, “President Trump’s announcement that the government will remove flavored e-cigarettes from the market is a necessary and long-overdue step to address the epidemic of youth e-cigarette use in the United States, but it must be comprehensive, immediate and long-lasting. This is a public health crisis and we cannot afford more delays in confronting it.”

How to Talk With Your Kids About Vaping [GUIDE]

Vaping’s popularity exploded seemingly overnight, and it took many parents and families by surprise. Vaping, or Juuling as it is often referred to by teens and young adults (named after a popular vape device called JUUL), is the inhaling and exhaling of an aerosol produced by using a vape device.

Once again a knee-jerk reaction to what is not an epidemic. Nor is there any real evidence that flavors are turning kids into addicts. Since most adults prefer flavors many will just go back to smoking instead of using the life-saving, evidence-based tool for smoking cessation.
So much for Trump’s promise to lessen regulations….
