Is It True That Someone in Recovery Should Not Get Into a Romantic Relationship for at Least a Year?

We work with a special group of moms and dads – Parent Coaches – who, just like you, have been affected by a child’s substance use. They are volunteers who receive special training from the Partnership and our clinical partner in order to help other families through similar struggles. In these blog posts, they answer parents’ most frequent questions.

Getting into a relationship is a very personal decision. The concern with relationships in early recovery is over the emotional ups and downs that come with the territory — what happens if there is a fight or a break-up, what might happen if one person relapses, assuming both are in recovery, etc.
