    Senior Accountant, Payroll

    As part of the Finance team and reporting to the VP, Finance and Controller, the Senior Accountant – Payroll will be responsible for all functions of the bi-weekly, multi-state payroll, coordinating closely with the Human Resources Department.

    Responsibilities of the job include: 

    • Demonstrate and reflect the mission and values of the organization.
    • Proactively coordinate and collaborate with colleagues to fulfill mission and objectives of the job.
    • Coordinate with HR and accounting to verify payroll changes, employee data and accounts, and complete payroll processing within deadlines.
    • Assume full charge of payroll cycle, direct the collection, computing, and documentation of payroll data, review timekeeping, and maintain compliance with organization’s payroll procedures, with accuracy and timeliness.
    • Oversee and review payroll payments and account reconciliations.
    • Administration of payroll transactions and reports for benefit plans.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local statutory reporting and filing requirements and document retention.
    • Preparation of required reports, payroll journal entries, benefit plan contributions, and allocations.
    • Maintain records and document processes to comply with company and legal regulations.
    • Recommend/assist with updates to payroll processing software, systems, processes, and procedures, as needed.
    • Provide detailed reports for annual audits, including 403b and workers’ compensation.
    • Respond to inquiries related to payroll, collaborate with HR and benefits administrators for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
    • Complete monthly payroll/ labor allocations and analyses and assigned accounting reconciliations.
    • Maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information at all times.
    • Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.
    • Work under general supervision. 

    Qualifications: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting/finance or related field preferred.
    • 8+ years of relevant work experience, including 5+ years of direct responsibility for payroll processing and accounting.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and ADP payroll software.
    • Strong knowledge of payroll processes and relevant compliance and legal regulations.
    • Experience working with external auditors pertaining to payroll related information for annual financial statement audit, retirement plan audit, Form 5500, and Form 990
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability to work and interact well with employees at all levels.
    • Strong math and analytical skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. 

    Annual Salary Range: $75,000 – $92,000

    This is a hybrid role.  The Senior Accountant will work in the New York City office at least one day per week.
