Statement from Marcia Lee Taylor, President and CEO, on the Passage of CARA

“The passage of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) marks a historic moment for the millions of Americans struggling with addiction and for the families trying to find help for a loved one.

We know that there is no silver bullet to fixing this problem. That is why we, the parents we work with and the addiction field united to support CARA, a wide-ranging piece of legislation designed to respond to this crisis through prevention, treatment, recovery support services, overdose reversal, criminal justice reform and law enforcement. We are losing 129 Americans each day to this epidemic.

We thank Congress for voting in favor of the CARA conference report.  While more work remains to be done to ensure that the programs authorized by the legislation are fully funded, we are making progress, and we’re so grateful to be doing this for and beside our parent advocates.”
