Statement from Marcus Daugherty, Vice President, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB) & System Innovation in advance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

As we approach Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 16, not only are we reminded of the accomplishments of this extraordinary civil rights leader, but also the humanity, compassion, and faith with which he fought for equality for all. Dr. King’s leadership inspired and empowered the lives of many people impacted by poverty, discrimination and unequal treatment.

The work of Dr. King continues through the leadership and vision of individuals as well as organizations dedicated to helping those in need. One such organization is 100 Black Men of America Inc. As the nation’s top African-American led mentoring organization, the mission of 100 Black Men is to improve the quality of life within communities of color and to enhance educational and economic opportunities for all African-Americans. 100 Black Men values its commitment to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African-American community based on the precepts of respect for family, spirituality, justice and integrity.

As we celebrate and reflect upon the life and accomplishments of Dr. King, let us view this holiday as a day of action and community service.
