Google Announces Matching Grant to Fund Partnership for Drug-Free Kids’ Family Support Services

We partnered with Google and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to encourage families and individuals to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which took place last week on Saturday, April 28. Google made it easier for people to find nearby Take Back events using Google Maps technology – but their support of families didn’t end there.

In a post from Susan Molinari, Google’s Vice President of Public Policy, she announced a matching grant, “We’ve worked with the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids since 2015 to help parents searching online for support connect to the Partnership’s Parent Helpline. This service provides free counseling and advice to parents who need help addressing the many challenges of a child’s substance use. Today, we’re announcing $750,000 in matching grants from Google to help expand the Parent Helpline and get even more families the support and help they need.”

Google will generously match dollar-for-dollar, up to a total of $250,000, doubling the impact of every donation made to the Partnership, from now until June 9. This match will significantly help us ensure that our Parent Helpline and free family support services can operate at capacity and reach every family in need of help.

Our President, Fred Muench, said of the grant, “More and more families are turning to us for help, but because of the severity of the epidemic, we are deluged with calls to our Helpline. We need support and dollars to meet the demand so we can help all of the families who reach out, panicked that their child will be the next statistic. We are thankful to Google for their long-standing commitment to ensure that families searching for answers to help a loved one with a substance use disorder find reliable information and guidance at the Partnership.”
