Facebook and Instagram will limit content about alcohol, tobacco and vaping and restrict sales of those products, CNN reports.

The new policy, unveiled this week, will ban all private sales, trades, transfers and gifting of alcohol and tobacco products on Facebook and Instagram, a Facebook company spokesperson told CNN.

Brands that post content about the sale or transfer of these products must restrict the content to adults 18 and older, the article notes.

The spokesperson said so-called influencers who are paid to promote products containing nicotine will be allowed to post content related to tobacco and vaping products. These posts will not need to be age restricted. The company is considering possible changes to its influencer policy, the spokesperson noted.
