Treatment for Homeless Grants

Programs that provide addiction treatment for the homeless are eligible for grants of up to $350,000 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

About $11.3 million is available for approximately 33 grants under the Development of Comprehensive Drug/Alcohol and Mental Health Treatment Systems for Persons Who are Homeless program.

“The purpose of this program is to expand and strengthen treatment services for persons who are homeless (including those who are chronically homeless), who also have substance use disorders, mental disorders, or co-occurring substance use and mental disorders,” according to the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), which will administer the program.

CSAT said that $6.8 million will be awarded for general treatment grants, with $4.5 million targeted at services for supportive housing. “The primary goal is to link treatment services with housing programs and other services (e.g., primary care),” notes the grant announcement.

Application deadline is April 30. Community-based public and private nonprofit organizations, including government entities and schools, may apply. For more details, see the full grant announcement online.
