    Rosenbloom Recognized for Contributions to Addiction Treatment and Medicine

    David Rosenbloom, PhD, director of Join Together based at Boston University School of Public Health, was recently presented with one of the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s (ASAM) highest honors, the John P. McGovern Award.

    Established in 1997, the John P. McGovern Award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the public policy, treatment, research or prevention of addiction that has increased the understanding of the relationship between addiction and society.

    The honor was presented to Rosenbloom at ASAM’s Medical-Scientific Conference Awards Luncheon held April 17, 2010, in San Francisco, Calif. He received an engraved medallion and a $1,000 stipend.

    Rosenbloom, a professor of community health sciences, is a national expert on drug and alcohol addiction and prevention who has worked in public health for more than 30 years.

    Before coming to BUSPH, Rosenbloom was Commissioner of Health and Hospitals for the City of Boston. He has served as principal investigator for the NIH/NIAAA Youth Alcohol Prevention Center and was a co-founder and chairman of QuitNet.com, the nation’s largest smoking cessation service from 2000 to 2005.

    Join Together is a program at BUSPH that supports community-based efforts to advance effective alcohol and drug prevention policy, prevention and treatment. Join Together leads initiatives to help communities respond to the harms caused by excessive alcohol and drug use and provides free internet services supporting their efforts.
