OxyContin Maker Purdue Pharma Agrees to Pay $270 Million to Resolve Lawsuit

Purdue Pharma, which makes OxyContin, has agreed to pay $270 million to resolve a lawsuit filed by Oklahoma’s attorney general, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The settlement includes $102.5 million that will fund an addiction and treatment center and $20 million worth of medicine. Purdue will also pay $12.5 million to local cities and counties and up to $60 million to cover litigation costs.

The company is facing more than 1,600 lawsuits blaming it for the opioid crisis. This settlement could lay the groundwork for resolving the remaining litigation filed by cities, counties and states, the article notes.
