North Carolina Legislature Passes Indoor Smoking Ban

Legislation to ban smoking in North Carolina restaurants and bars has passed the state House of Representatives, the Associated Press reported May 13.

The House voted 62-56 in favor of the bill, which includes a fine of up to $50 for smokers who violate the ban.

Gov. Beverly Purdue said she would sign the bill — already approved by the state Senate — into law.
