    N.M.: New Medical-Marijuana Suppliers Named

New Mexico, the first state to officially authorize marijuana growers for its medical-marijuana program, has named an additional four suppliers to meet growing demand for the drug.

The New Mexico Independent reported Nov. 9 that the state previously had only one authorized supplier, which quickly sold out of its marijuana stock. “Our main goals are to ensure our patients have access to the medicine they need while building a sustainable program for New Mexico,” said state health secretary Alfredo Vigil.

All five of the authorized suppliers are nonprofit organizations. The state, which currently has 755 medical-marijuana patients, is looking to line up one producer for every 100 patients.
