$54 Million for HIV and Addiction Prevention from SAMHSA

Up to $54 million in grants will be awarded to programs that provide integrated HIV/AIDS and substance-abuse prevention services, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced.

Funding under the Ready to Respond initiative will be for five years and will go to previously funded grantees of the Substance Abuse, HIV, and Hepatitis Prevention for Minority Populations and Minority Reentry Populations in Communities of Color program (RFA No. SP-05-001).

“The Ready-To-Respond Initiative is designed to prevent substance use among high-risk minority populations and reduce the incidence of new HIV infection,” according to SAMHSA. “The goal of the program is to engage experienced community-level domestic public and private nonprofit entities in preventing and reducing substance abuse and new HIV infection among at-risk racial and ethnic minority populations in underserved communities affected by these problems.”

Up to 36 grants of a maximum of $300,000 will be awarded. Application deadline is Feb. 23.
