Medical Marijuana Bills Introduced in Wisconsin

Lawmakers in both houses of the Wisconsin state legislature are considering bills that would legalize medical use of marijuana, the Wausau Daily Herald reported Nov. 28.

The measures introduced in the state Senate and Assembly could make Wisconsin the 14th state to adopt a medical-marijuana law. Advocates like Gary Storck, head of the Wisconsin group Is My Medicine Legal Yet?, contend that public and legislative support for medical marijuana is at a high point.

The Wisconsin bill would legalize medical use of marijuana for certain medical conditions, like HIV and cancer, and direct the state Department of Health Services to issue medical-marijuana ID cards to authorized users. “Compassion centers” would distribute the drug.
