Mass. Alcohol Tax Battle Could Affect Addiction Funding

A campaign to roll back Massachusetts’ new alcohol sales tax has a direct bearing on funding for addiction programs, which stand to receive up to $100 million from the tax revenues.

The Metro reported Aug. 5 that a proposed ballot item to repeal the 6.25 percent tax could appear on next year’s statewide ballot.

“We will do what we can to educate the public about the value [of these funds] and those that are near and dear to anyone’s heart with addictions knows how critical it is,” said Maryanne Frangules of the Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR).
