Physician Clinical Support System Grants for the Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for cooperative agreements under the Physician Clinical Support System for the Treatment of Substance Use Disorders (PCSS), intended to enhance and further develop the current DATA Physician Clinical Support System that helps physicians treat patients dependent on opioid drugs with buprenorphine.

Up to $1.5 million will be awarded by SAMHSA for a single, three-year project. “Grants support an array of activities to help the grantee build a solid foundation for delivering and sustaining effective substance abuse prevention and/or treatment and/or mental health services,” according to the agency. “Awardees may pursue diverse strategies and methods to achieve their infrastructure development and capacity expansion goals. The plan put forward in the grant application must show the linkages among needs, the proposed infrastructure development strategy, and increased system capacity that will enhance and sustain effective programs and services.”

Eligibility is limited to the national professional medical organizations authorized by the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA) to carry out the training of physicians desiring to prescribe and/or dispense FDA approved buprenorphine products for the treatment of addictive disorders.
