I Never Looked Back

I never looked back- stories of hope portrait

I dealt with addiction my whole life.  First it was anorexia, then weed and speed.  It escalated to narcotics: cocaine, heroin, freebase.  When I was 33, I finally realized if something didn't change - and change fast - I was going to be a good looking corpse.  A well educated nurse in San Francisco saw what I was and helped me.  Another counsellor saw what I was and steered me to my first Narcotics Anonymous meeting.  I've never looked back.  My life is totally different now.  It hasn't been all that easy, but my life is mine.  I'll have 29 years clean and sober next week.

I’m not thrilled about this ‘birthday’ thing which seems to come from AA. If you don’t want to use then don’t use and congrats on your ‘sobriety’. But please stop trying to convince others that if they use again they will surely die. Because that’s not true, though the belief itself can be deadly.
