Latest Parent Coach Training Takes Place in Toms River, New Jersey

We hosted our latest parent coach training in Toms River, New Jersey last week, with the help of our partners, Hope Sheds Light and the Center for Motivation and Change Foundation for Change (CMCFFC), whose expert, PhD-level clinical staff conducted the weekend-long training.

Using CMCFFC’s Invitation to Change Approach, a special mix of Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), Motivational Interviewing and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, we trained 16 extraordinary family members to be new Parent Coaches. Almost all of the attendees are either working professionally or dedicating their time as volunteers, committing to help other families of loved ones who are struggling with addiction.

The newly trained Parent Coaches will dedicate six months to providing one-on-one support to other parents in need over the phone. Combining their personal experiences of helping loved ones overcome addictions, and the skills taught to them at the training session, parent coaches listen, offer ideas and provide support to other parents in need of guidance.

Said one of the parent coaches at the session, “It was what I needed to do this weekend, not only to learn important skills for a great cause but it reminded me of the importance of standing up for what we believe is right in this field.”

The next available training session will take place in the summer in Salt Lake City, Utah. For more information, or to register, contact Madison Moore at madison_moore@drugfree.org.
