Partnership Presents on Vaping at Mamaroneck High School

The Partnership’s Pat Aussem, recently led a presentation focused on vaping for parents, teachers and other high school staff at Mamaroneck High School in New York.

Vaping, sometimes also known as Juuling, is the act of inhaling and exhaling the aerosol, often referred to as vapor, produced by an e-cigarette or similar device. Vaping has become more popular among teens than regular cigarettes, especially given that vaping devices can be used for anything from flavors like mango, mint or tutti frutti, to flavorings containing nicotine or THC, the chemical compound in marijuana that produces the high.

Pat, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Master Addictions Counselor, presented on the history of vaping and the types of vape devices used for ejuices, nicotine and marijuana. She explored the health risks for adolescents, talked about the FDA’s stance on vaping and also offered suggestions on how parents can address this issue with their teens and young adults.

Pat noted that “the high school principal underscored how vaping has ‘exploded.’ Families in attendance wanted to know more about what the government is doing to protect youth from this behavior and expressed concern that we are on our way to a new generation of kids becoming addicted to Juuling.”
