AMC Theaters, one of the nation’s largest movie chains, is considering adding restaurants that serve alcohol in its New York movie houses. According to the New York Post, a new state law allows people to bring alcohol to their seats in movie theaters that already have licensed sitdown restaurants.
“We’re excited about the possibility of bringing AMC Dine-In Theatres to our guests in New York,” spokesman Ryan Noonan told the newspaper.
The article notes state lawmakers who voted for the law hope it will boost business for movie theaters by attracting adults who want dinner and a movie in one place. Cathy Peake, spokeswoman for bill sponsor Assemblyman Joe Lentol, said, “Adults aren’t enjoying going to the movies [which cater to] adolescents.”
