The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools will award $3.3 million in discretionary grants to programs working to reduce alcohol abuse among secondary-school students.

Up to nine grants will be awarded to local education agencies (LEAs) — including charter schools — that develop and implement innovative and effective programs to reduce alcohol abuse. Funding comes via the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities National Program.

Application deadline is April 16, 2010.
