Up to 15 Drug-Free Communities Mentoring Grants will be awarded to community anti-drug coalitions that assist the development of other groups and coalition leaders, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

A total of $1.1 million is available for the grants; up to $75,000 will be awarded to each grantee over two years. “These grants will ensure that the most proven drug prevention strategies are spread across the country,” said U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

The grants will be awarded to current recipients of Drug Free Communities (DFC) grants “so they may serve as mentors to newly formed and/or developing coalitions that have never received a DFC grant to increase their capacity to implement effective drug-prevention strategies in the communities they serve,” according to SAMHSA.

Application deadline is April 23, 2010. For more details, see the full grant announcement online.
