California authorities have charged Anna Nicole Smith’s boyfriend, Howard Kevin Stern, and her doctors with illegally supplying Smith with prescription drugs, the Los Angeles Times reported March 13.
Stern and doctors Sandeep Kapoor and Khristine Eroshevich have been charged with conspiring to “commit the crimes of prescribing, administering and dispensing controlled substances to an addict” and “unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance,” according to California Attorney General Jerry Brown. All three allegedly gave Smith opiates, benzodiaepines and other controlled and non-controlled substances, Brown said.
Kapoor and Eroshevich were also charged with obtaining a prescription for opiates by “fraud, deceit or misrepresentation,” and obtaining an opiate prescription with a false name or address.
Erishevich’s attorney said using pseudonyms on prescriptions was necessary to protect Smith from the media. Eroshevich treated Smith, who died of an accidental prescription-drug overdose in 2007, during the last six months of her life.
