The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted marketing authorization to four new flavored nicotine pouches.

The details:

• FDA authorized on! Rich Berry 2 mg, Cappuccino 2 mg, Cappuccino 4 mg, and Autumn Spice 2 mg pouches.
• The authorizations are part of the agency’s pilot program launched in September 2025 meant to “streamline the review process of nicotine pouches through the PMTA [premarket tobacco product applications] pathway.”
• FDA said its evaluation found that these products “contain lower levels of most harmful and potentially harmful constituents when compared to other oral and smokeless tobacco products, many of which were too low to be quantified in the new products.” The agency said that for adults who use smokeless tobacco or smoke cigarettes, switching to these pouches may reduce exposure to many harmful chemicals.

The bigger picture: FDA has now authorized 30 nicotine pouches.

• Why it’s important: Flavored products are appealing to young people and may lead to more use by people who do not smoke or use other tobacco/nicotine products. While the pouches may contain lower levels of some harmful chemicals than cigarettes, nicotine poses its own addiction and health risks, and there is lacking research on the long-term outcomes of using nicotine pouches.
