The SPIKE Alert by Text program is a free and confidential program for Maine residents that delivers customized messages directly to a subscriber’s cell phone. The alert system allows families, caregivers and community members to receive spike notifications of overdoses issued by local law enforcement and public health officials. Program participants can also receive messages from the Partnership to End Addiction customized to your family’s needs providing additional support, information and resources to address a loved one’s substance use.

Spike alerts can offer opportunities to:

• Have discussions about using substances more safely and/or seeking treatment
• Take action to protect loved ones and others, such as getting naloxone and learning how to use it
• Talk about the risks of substance use with other family members and friends
• Advocate for and support efforts within the community to prevent overdoses
