NEW YORK, NY – September 15, 2011 – the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids today announced Renew Media, LCC as one of its first strategic partners to help further the organization’s new cause campaign, You Are Not Alone. This campaign calls on all those affected by substance abuse to come forward and help families whose teens and young adults are struggling with addiction. Renew Media, LLC has joined with the national nonprofit to share content and help promote the group’s online tools and resources across various Renew communication channels, including Renew magazine and RenewEveryDay.com.
You Are Not Alone invites those who have been affected by addiction to submit their video stories on the campaign’s YouTube channel. Each unique submission serves as a message to support the families of the 11 million teens or young adults who need addiction treatment. Working together, amassing the stories and voices of millions – those who know what families are going through, how much is at stake and how much may be reclaimed if we get our teens and young adults the help they need – You Are Not Alone will open a new dialogue around addiction and help lower the barriers that stand in the way of finding effective treatment and recovery.
Eighty five million Americans have been impacted by addiction, a disease that begins in adolescence. In fact, 90 percent of adults with drug or alcohol problems started using before the age of 18.
“We are excited to be working with Renew Media, a smart and influential voice dedicated to supporting the recovery community,” says Steve Pasierb, President of the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids. “You Are Not Alone encourages public storytelling – stories of lives changed, of isolation, of heartbreak, and ultimately, of hope and healing – and puts a human face to this treatable disease while helping reduce public misunderstanding about addiction and recovery. Renew’s commitment to You Are Not Alone is a true honor and will be critical in building a groundswell of support around this cause. Millions of voices need to be heard.”
According to Renew founder and publisher, James Moorhead, “There are an estimated 23 million Americans suffering from addiction and two-thirds of Americans have a friend or family member that is dealing with drug or alcohol abuse. We at Renew believe that by covering important issues faced by those struggling with addiction, we can also lessen the stigma associated with the disease and convey the positive aspects of recovery. We are delighted to work with the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids to send the message to those suffering with substance abuse issues and the millions of loved ones touched by addiction that recovery is not only sustainable, but that it’s also a wonderful place to be.”
