Last month, Marcia Lee Taylor, Vice President and Director of Government Relations at the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, joined Regina LaBelle from the Office of National Drug Control Policy to address the U.S. Conference of Mayors 79th Annual Winter Meeting in Washington DC.

Taylor spoke to a committee of mayors from around the country about the problem of prescription drug abuse and the resources, programs and tools we have developed to help them educate parents in their communities about misuse of prescribed drugs.

The panel was convened by Joy Cooper, Mayor of Hallandale Beach, Florida.  Mayor Cooper addressed her concerns about the proliferation of pill mills in her state and how she is working with her colleagues to close the legal loopholes that allow them to operate. She has taken the lead in her city to educate parents and teens about the risks associated with abusing prescription medications, and encouraged others at the conference to join her in finding innovative and effective ways in dealing with this issue at the community level. We look forward to continuing to work with Mayor Cooper and other elected officials to raise awareness about this important health issue.
