Steve Pasierb to Speak About Rx Drug Abuse at A&E Town Hall

Next Tuesday, December 6th, our President and CEO Steve Pasierb will serve as a panelist at a town hall meeting hosted by A&E Network and The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey.  Moderated by ABC News Correspondent Deborah Roberts, the event will aim to raise awareness about the dangers of prescription (Rx) drug abuse

According to a 2010 NIDA survey, 16 million Americans age 12 and older have taken an Rx pain reliever, tranquilizer, stimulant or sedative for nonmedical purposes at least once over the past year.  And after marijuana, Rx and over-the-counter medications account for most of the drugs abused nationally by high school seniors.

Joining Steve on the panel are Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio, Donna Chavous of A&E’s “Intervention” and Carol Venditto, New Jersey Judiciary Statewide Drug Court Coordinator.  Community members, students, parents, law enforcement experts and treatment providers will be in attendance at the event.  To learn more about the meeting and view an online broadcast, visit A&E Network’s website.

It is unfortunate that out chldrien in high school are getting a hold of such dangerous substances as bath salts. They are always looking for the next big thing and it is important that we let them know of the dangers. It is also important that we regulate marijuana since it is the most used substance. Having it regulated rather than illegal would aid in preventing minors from obtaining it so easily in the underground market.
