2019 Year in Review: Center on Addiction
We merged to empower families to support loved ones, advance effective addiction care, and shape public policies that prevent and treat addiction as a public health issue.
We played a significant role at the 2016 National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit, which took place in Atlanta, GA this week. Our President and CEO Marcia Lee Taylor had the privilege of introducing U.S. Surgeon General Vice Admiral Dr. Vivek Murthy for his keynote on bringing forth solutions to help solve the country’s opiate and heroin crisis.
As part of the summit’s “heroin track,” we participated in a panel discussion, HIDTA Heroin Response Strategy, and provided attendees a preview of a new, comprehensive resource, “Heroin and Other Opioids: From Understanding to Action,” to help families and communities address the country’s growing heroin and prescription drug abuse crisis. The hub was funded with support from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTAs) in the eastern United States.
The Partnership brings its leadership on the issue of teen medicine abuse to bear in three components of the HIDTA strategy: community education, online education and tools and peer-to-peer parent support.
The National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit is the largest national collaboration of professionals from local, state and federal agencies, business, academia, clinicians, treatment providers, counselors, educators, state and national leaders, and advocates impacted by Rx drug abuse and heroin use. President Obama and key members of Congress ere also keynote speakers at this year’s summit.
