Trump Proposes Cutting Drug Control Policy Office Budget by 95 Percent

The Trump Administration 2020 budget proposal includes a 95 percent cut to the budget of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), The Washington Post reports.

Trump is proposing moving two major grant programs out of ONDCP. He also wants to make significant reductions to Medicaid, the core program that provides health care for people with substance use disorders. The president wants to cut the Justice Department’s drug prevention efforts, and impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients, the article notes.

The opioid epidemic has cost the United States $504 billion in economic losses, according to the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

TAKE ACTION: Oppose Budget Cuts to ONDCP

ONDCP provides the country with essential programs and critical coordination of the federal response to the drug issue. With nearly 200 drug overdose deaths each day, these resources are needed now more than ever.

We urge you to contact your Members of Congress, the acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and the White House to express your disagreement with this proposed budget and to save the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
