Teens Who Use E-Cigarettes Often More Likely to Become Regular Smokers

A new study finds teens who often use e-cigarettes are more likely to become regular smokers and to smoke many cigarettes a day.

The study included 3,084 Los Angeles teens who participated in surveys in the fall and spring of tenth grade, Reuters reports. They were asked whether they had tried e-cigarettes, and if so, how often. They were also asked about regular cigarette use. The researchers found more frequent vaping was associated with smoking two or more cigarettes on the days teens chose to smoke.

The findings are published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Cyndi….I had a good laugh when I read your response…as I was vaping cotton candy flavor. I’m 63 years old. Flavors are essential to help adults switch from smoking. There is no evidence that flavors are being used to hook kids. None.
We don’t want kids to vape because of their developing brains. Fortunately most kids who vape don’t use nicotine.
Unless you deliberately drink it to kill yourself nicotine is fairly harmless. It’s the tar, carbon monoxide, etc. that kills. When vaped, nicotine is as harmful as caffeine.
Vaping is proving to be far more effective than patches in helping people quit smoking. You do want people to quit smoking, don’t you?

Fr. Jack Kearney – the bottom line here:

    1. E-cigs and vaping are flavored to attract youth. What grown man is going to look for cotton candy flavored tobacco anything? Flavorings attract kids to try them, just to see if they really taste like the flavor advertised.
    2. Nicotine, no matter how it is delivered is addictive. In the adolescent brain, nicotine causes life long changes. The brain is not fully developed until age 25. This is why, 90% of nicotine users initiate in their teen years. BIG TOBACCO has targeted youth for these reasons with flavoring that attract youth.
    3. Nicotine changes the DNA in those that use.
    4. People die from nicotine.
    5. There are pharmcological products, FDA approved to help people that desire to break the addiction to nicotine. (nicotine patch and gum)

The scientific evidence exist. Nicotine Kills. Tobacco contains nicotine. Vape e-juice comes from tobacco. KILLS KILLS KILLS

One last note, nicotine naturally occurs in the tobacco plant to kill bugs that try to eat the plant. Nicotine is a pesticide. KILLS KILLS

Stop trying to skew studies and taking the focus of the real harm nicotine has caused to our societies. KILLS KILLS KILLS

Uh, if you read the actual study your will see: the data are cross-sectional; thus, we were unable to establish causal inferences,” So this is no proof that ecigs lead to smoking. Since they only found correlation instead of causation it is equally valid to say that smoking leads to vaping experimentation. Please look at the preponderance of research and come to the scientific conclusion that vaping is not a gateway to smoking, and that vaping is an evidence-based tool for smoking cessation.
