    Grants for Supportive Housing Services

    Programs that provide supportive housing for people with addictions may apply for a share of $1.5 million in grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

    Up to four FY2009 Services in Supportive Housing grants of approximately $400,000 will be awarded to programs that help prevent or reduce chronic homelessness.

    Programs that operate HUD-funded permanent supportive-housing or comparable programs may apply.

    “The purpose of this program is to help prevent or reduce chronic homelessness by funding services for individuals and families experiencing chronic homelessness in coordination with existing permanent supportive housing programs and resources,” according to SAMHSA. The grant program “provides individuals and families who experience chronic homelessness the appropriate services and treatment needed to stay housed in a permanent setting.”

    SAMHSA's Center for Mental Health Services will administer the awards.
